Wrinkle Reduction

Overview

As we grow older, creases, folds, or ridges develop naturally due to the skin becoming thin and losing elasticity, and the recurrent muscle tone and working of the muscles create wrinkles due to the loss of elasticity and firmness. Although genetics play an essential role in your skin structure, several factors can increase your chances of developing wrinkles. Sun exposure, for example, is one of the leading sources of wrinkles, especially in light-skinned individuals. Environmental pollutants, smoking, alcohol consumption, poor diet and nutrition, and drug use can also cause premature wrinkling.

The superficial muscles are relaxed during treatments for wrinkle reduction, which results in the relaxation or reduction of wrinkles in the area targeted. It's most commonly done in the forehead, frown line, and crow's feet area. Injecting Botulinum toxin relaxes muscles.

Dr Nadine also assesses what skin treatments an individual needs and refers them to the Professional Skin Care Lab on-site. Dr Nadine and the Professional Skin Care Lab work as a holistic team to achieve the best results for a patient.

Treatment

Dr Nadine offers popular and effective wrinkle reduction treatments. As part of her approach, she works to reduce wrinkles and signs of ageing with subtle changes to rejuvenate the skin and highlight your natural beauty.

Dr Nadine firmly believes that less is more and prefers to establish a one-year plan for each individual to ensure treatment is gradual, natural-looking and cost-effective.

At your first consultation, Dr Nadine will discuss your concerns and goals and conduct a physical examination of your skin. She may inquire about your medical history and lifestyle before determining the best treatment option for you.

Active Ingredients

There are various types of injectables that can be used for wrinkle reduction. The active ingredient that Dr Nadine uses in her wrinkle reduction treatment is always botulinum toxin, which is a safety-tested ingredient.

Procedure

Dr Nadine offers wrinkle reduction in the form of botulinum toxin injections. This treatment is incredibly effective, but your treatment will depend on your medical history, cosmetic goals and budget.

During the procedure, the injectable botulinum toxin will be inserted beneath the skin's surface to cause relaxation of the muscles and therefore allow for wrinkles to smooth out and reduce. This will reduce their appearance and leaves the skin looking youthful and rejuvenated.

Risks & Recovery

Risks associated with wrinkle reduction are minor but possible. Risks with botulinum toxin are that there can be bruising and swelling at the injection sites, which is common to all injections. Individuals may need to give the wrinkle reduction time to set in before a final result can be taken or judged. Dr Nadine is always open to individuals coming to show her their results or for them to give her feedback should they feel that they need more botulinum toxin injected or should they feel that they are not satisfied with how the botulinum toxin turned out. Dr Nadine wants all individuals to feel comfortable discussing results with her. Recovery after the procedure depends on the patient, but downtime is minimal.

FAQ

How long does wrinkle reduction last?

Botulinum toxin typically lasts three months in the system. This can vary depending on a person's metabolism. People with faster metabolisms tend to have shorter result periods, whereas people with slower metabolisms tend to have longer-lasting results. The botulinum toxin metabolises out of an individual, so the speed of one's metabolism would affect the length of the longevity of the botulinum toxin. Another factor influencing how long the botulinum toxin lasts depends on how strong the muscles are. The strength of a person's muscles is determined genetically and determines how much botulinum toxin is required to relax those muscles. Therefore, every person's treatment is individualised as some people may have stronger muscles than others and may require more botulinum toxin in certain areas than others.

Is it painful?

The injections may be slightly uncomfortable, but the pain is unlikely. There are numbing creams available beforehand.
