Lowered Immunity
Sometimes a person's immune system is dysfunctional. This can be caused by congenital immune deficiencies, medications that suppress the immune system, such as corticosteroids, unnecessary or overzealous immune responses, such as allergies, or autoimmunity. When a person presents with a compromised immune system, they are likely to contract infections more often than the average person, and these infections may be more severe or difficult to treat. In addition, these individuals may contract an infection that a person with a more robust immune system would not.
