Chronic Cystitis

Chronic cystitis is a persistent bladder inflammation typically caused by a urinary tract infection (UTI). If chronic cystitis spreads to the kidneys, it can cause renal failure. A UTI can become a severe health issue. Cystitis may occur less frequently due to a reaction to particular medications, radiation therapy, or potential irritants such as feminine bodily hygiene spray, spermicidal jellies, or long-term catheter use. Cystitis may also manifest as a complication of another condition. In chronic cystitis, an individual always presents with a bladder infection, but there is not always an indication of bacteria in the testing.
